Buying Organic Foods on a Budget? Why Yes you Can!
Yes it is possible to eat organic foods on a budget. I mean face it….not everyone just shops blindly when in comes to finances at the grocery store. Here are a four tips to help you start eating healthier and more organic on a budget. First let me explain Conventional versus Organic. When you go into the store you will see signs that read Conventionally grown or locally grown and signs that read Organic. Conventionally grown may use synthetic processes where as Organically does not.
- If you can Peel it – BUY Conventional. Listen you are tossing the peel out anyway, so why spend extra money that you are literally going to throw away! I mean really…….
- Skipped Bagged Organics – Pick it yourself. Yeah it may take a few extra minutes but it will save you in the long run and besides there is something to be said about picking and chopping up our own stuff. You can appreciate it more = Gratitude with our Food.
- Buy Conventional Rice, Bread and Pasta – Go whole grain. You don’t have to spend lots of money, but you should look for brown rice, whole wheat pasta as they aren’t as processes as white carbs.
- Buy Store Brand Diary – Yes go with the store label. Its Half the Price! And many chains only buy from the farmers who pledge to avoid artificial growth hormones. The down and dirty… my dad worked for a major grocery chain… do you really think Publix, ShopRite and the like, have there OWN farms and facilities where they make EVERYTHING you see in the store.
Now with all that said above I recommend you do SPLURGE on the following:
- Buy Organic Eggs. Eggs with the USDA seal contain less saturated fat & more omega 3’s
- Buy Grass Fed Meat. To help you with cost and less fat choose budget cuts like Chuck, Flank, or Skirt steak.
- Buy Organic Chicken. You get the best bang for you buck by buying the whole bird.
So there you have it, 4 simple steps you can implement the next time you go shopping. Now pass the info on and I will see you soon for more TajTalks.
