Why should I Stretch?
Real people do Flexibility training….. that means you too. You don’t need to be Gumby but you do need to engage in flexibility work. For it to be most effective it should be done daily! But I will accept at least 3 – 4 times a week.
Just a little food for thought…..I don’t know about you but I want to be on this earth as long as possible, living my life to the fullest. Which also includes being able to complete everyday tasks with ease as I mature.
Did you know it takes flexibility to do simple things like:
- Tie your shoes
- Wash your hair
- Reach for the top shelf
- Park the car and the list goes on.
You don’t have to take on a daily 90 min yoga class, although that would be awesome if you did. But you can totally take 5 minutes at the start and end of your day to do a few basic stretches for your chest, back, shoulders, quads, hamstrings, core and glutes.
For my POW’s – AKA – prisoners of work, flexibility training reduces the risk of chronic back pain. It enhances other forms of exercise, allowing for greater range of motion. Doing flexibility work before a class or workout reduces risk of injury and afterwards releases stress and tension. Flexibility work improves posture and balance and guess what else? It also stimulates transportation of nutrients and overall circulation through the body. Who doesn’t want to get all their nutrients.
